Lawn and Garden Waste Curbside Collection in November

This fall, the Town will be collecting lawn and garden waste (grass, leaves, flowers, shrub clippings, weeds and small branches) from the curbside of residential homes on the following dates:

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on TUESDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2009.

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on WEDNESDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2009.

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on THURSDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2009.

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on FRIDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2009.

If participation levels are such that your lawn and garden waste is not collected on the Saturday designated for your collection area, please leave it out for collection on the following day (Sunday).

THE PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW ARE:

All items are to be placed at the end of your driveway at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the day of your collection. We will accept these items only:

GRASS, LEAVES, FLOWERS, SHRUB CLIPPINGS AND WEEDS: These are to be put into clear plastic garbage bags, and weigh no more than 35 pounds each. Please shake off any extra soil attached to flowers and weeds to reduce the weight. NOTE: Invasive and noxious weeds, such as Scotch Broom, English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry, are not allowed in this collection service. They are allowed in Hartland Landfill and can be included in your weekly garbage.

BRANCHES: Branches are to be no longer than 3 feet in length, no more than 3 inches in diameter, and are to be bundled and then tied with string in bundles that weigh no more than 35 pounds each.

Each residence is allowed 5 of the above items in total. If you would like to put out more than this, you can purchase Extra Bag Decals for $3.00 each per bag or bundle, which are available at the Town Hall. IF YOUR LAWN AND GARDEN WASTE DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE, IT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. This service does not include composted food materials, and please note that this service applies only to those residences that are part of the Town’s Residential Garbage and Household Food Waste Collection Program.

NOTE: Private strata roads cannot accommodate the size of the lawn and garden waste collection truck. Residents on these roads need to place their lawn and garden waste at the edge of the main road into the strata.

Remember also that the Canteen Composting Facility in Esquimalt is available to View Royal residents free of charge at the gate. If you would like an informational brochure for this facility, including operating hours, location, and materials allowed, please call the facility at (250) 386-3343 or drop into the Town Hall.

Olympic Torch Relay

The Town of View Royal will welcome the Olympic Torch Relay from approximately 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009. For a detailed map of the route, please see the document attached to this notice.

The Town encourages residents and businesses to celebrate by watching the Torch Runner go by and wearing red and white - the Canadian flag colours.

Significant traffic delays will likely result.

Also, please join us at Helmcken Centennial Park immediately following the Relay for refreshments and a special performance by Holly Arntzen and the Dream Band featuring a choir composed of students from the two elementary schools in View Royal as well as appearances by former Olympians. Lawn and Garden Waste Pick-up Fall Service

The Town held a very successful Lawn and Garden Waste Pick-up service in August of this year, and we are now offering our residents another one for late fall. This includes the pick-up and disposal of grass, leaves and branches from the curbside of all residential homes that are part of the Town’s Residential Garbage Collection Program. The dates for the pick-up service at the end of November are as follows:

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on MONDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2008.

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on WEDNESDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2008.

For those residents who get their weekly garbage picked up on THURSDAYS, your lawn and garden waste pick-up day will be SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2008.

The procedures to follow are:

All items are to be placed at the end of your driveway at the curbside. We will accept these items only:

GRASS AND LEAVES: These are to be put into clear plastic garbage bags, and weigh no more than 35 pounds each.

BRANCHES: Branches are to be no longer than 3 feet in length, no more than 3 inches in diameter, and are to be bundled and then tied with string in bundles that weigh no more than 35 pounds each.

Depending on what participation levels will be, some of these routes may also be picked up on the following day (Sunday), so please leave your lawn and garden waste on the curbside over night if it doesn’t get picked up on your designated Saturday.

NOTE: Due to the truck size used for this pick-up service, strata roads cannot receive curbside service, so those residents on strata roads need to place all materials at the roadway edge of the main road into the strata.

Each residence will be allowed 5 of the above items in total. If you would like to put out more than this, you can purchase extra bag decals for $3.00 each per bag or bundle, which are available at the Town Hall. NOTE: IF YOUR LAWN AND GARDEN WASTE DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE, IT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP! This service does not include composted food materials, and please note that this service applies only to those residences that are part of the Town’s Residential Garbage Collection Program.

Remember also that the Canteen Composting Facility in Esquimalt is available to residents free of charge at the gate. If you would like an informational brochure for this facility, including operating hours, location, and materials allowed, please drop into the Town Hall or contact us at (250) 479-6800.
