Sidewalk Snow Clearing Reminder
With the winter season upon us, and the possibility of snowfall and inclement weather, we would like to remind View Royal residents about our Streets and Traffic Regulation Bylaw No. 609, which states that:
“Every person being an occupant or owner of any property abutting or fronting upon a portion of sidewalk shall cause such portion of the sidewalk to be cleared and kept clear of all snow, ice, dirt, litter and rubbish, and shall dispose of the same otherwise than leaving it upon the roadway or highway.”
We would ask that you kindly remember your elderly or handicapped neighbours who may need assistance with snow removal. We appreciate your assistance in maintaining a high level of safety for pedestrians in our Town.
The Town will make every effort to keep sidewalks at school crossings, intersections, bus stops and stairways open and clear of snow and ice.
ROAD SNOW CLEARING
The Town uses Mainroad South Island Contracting Ltd. to salt, plow and clear snow from all the roads within the Town (with the exception of private strata roads). In the event of a major snowfall, we ask that residents not park their vehicles on the roads overnight and to stay off the roadways if at all possible so that the snow plows can negotiate the roads and get them cleared as quickly as possible.
A tip from Mainroad Contracting: When clearing snow in your driveway, please push the snow to the right of your driveway (facing the road from your home) so that when the snow plow comes by, it does not plow any excess snow across your driveway entrance.

Olympic Torch Relay
The Town of View Royal will welcome the Olympic Torch Relay from approximately 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009. For a detailed map of the route, please see the document attached to this notice.
The Town encourages residents and businesses to celebrate by watching the Torch Runner go by and wearing red and white - the Canadian flag colours.
Due to traffic impacts which will accompany the Relay, residents and businesses are encouraged to avoid driving in this area between the hours of 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. The roads along the route will not be completely closed during this time, but will be subject to a rolling (temporary) road closure moving westward along Island Highway (towards Colwood) and then northward on Helmcken Road (towards the hospital) as the Torch Relay convoy passes through. Significant traffic delays will likely result.
Also, please join us at Helmcken Centennial Park immediately following the Relay for refreshments and a special performance by Holly Arntzen and the Dream Band featuring a choir composed of students from the two elementary schools in View Royal as well as appearances by former Olympians. Please drop by the Town Hall for a complementary handheld Olympic flag! (45 View Royal Avenue.
